Salah is the second pillar of Islam. Allah says: "Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times." (Quran 4:103)
The Prophet ο·Ί said: "The first thing a person will be called to account for on the Day of Judgement is the prayer." (Ibn Majah 1425)
Understanding Islamic Prayer Times
The five daily prayers β Salah β are the second pillar of Islam. Their times are astronomically determined by the sun's position relative to the observer's location. Fajr begins at the appearance of true dawn (Fajr al-Sadiq), when a horizontal white line appears on the eastern horizon. Dhuhr begins when the sun begins its decline after midday. Asr begins when the shadow of an object equals its length (Shafi, Maliki and Hanbali) or twice its length (Hanafi). Maghrib is at actual sunset. Isha is when darkness fully sets in.
TaqwaTools uses the free, open-access Aladhan.com API to fetch prayer times. Aladhan supports all major scholarly calculation methods: the Karachi method (University of Islamic Sciences) widely used across Pakistan, Bangladesh and India; the MWL method for UK and Europe; ISNA for North America; the Egyptian General Authority method; and several others. You can switch methods using the selector above.
Prayer times on TaqwaTools update automatically each day. Your location is only used to fetch times and is never stored on our servers. If you grant GPS permission, your coordinates are sent directly to the Aladhan API. If you use the city search, only the city name is sent.
